what is polyurethane crack injection?

polyurethane crack injection is a process used to repair cracks in concrete structures and at groon, this is how we repair horizontal and vertical cracks in home foundations. it involves injecting a two-part polyurethane resin, under high pressure, into the crack, which then expands and hardens to fill the crack and prevent water infiltration. this process is often used to repair cracks in foundations, walls, floors, and other concrete structures.

benefits of polyurethane crack injection

polyurethane crack injection offers several benefits over traditional methods of concrete repair. it is a fast and cost-effective solution that can be completed in just one day. the injected material also has excellent adhesion properties, allowing it to bond securely with the surrounding concrete, even when the area has an active leak or still has water present. additionally, the injected material is waterproof and will not shrink with temperature changes, making it an ideal choice for long-term repairs. finally, polyurethane crack injection is done from the interior, avoiding costly and disruptive excavation projects that are subject to seasonal timing and weather conditions in the rainy seasons.

specifically in southern Alberta, with our 30-35 chinook cycles annually, the polyurethane stays flexible after it cures, so if there are micro-movements in your foundation walls during the many freeze/thaw cycles, the polyurethane will continue to bridge the crack.

how does polyurethane crack injection work?

the process of polyurethane crack injection begins with prepping the area by cleaning out any debris from the crack and ensuring that it is free from moisture. then a port system is mounted into the cracked area and a bridging compound is applied between ports.  once this step is complete, a two-part polyurethane resin is injected into the crack using a high pressure pump. the resin then expands as it cures, filling the entire length of the crack and forming a watertight seal that prevents further water intrusion. the polyurethane resin cures quickly and in the presence of water cures even faster, which is why it is the natural choice for active leaks as it acts as a water cut off for immediate relief of flowing water.

considerations when choosing polyurethane crack injection

when considering polyurethane crack injection as a method of repair for your concrete structure, there are several factors to keep in mind. first, make sure that you select an experienced contractor who has experience performing this type of work. benjamin heninger, founder of groon, is an accredited civil engineer and has been in good standing with APEGA (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta) for the last 17 years. secondly, we use only the highest-quality materials that are designed specifically for use in this application and any foundation repairs performed by groon come with a 10 year work guarantee. finally, we always follow all safety precautions when performing any type of concrete repair work to ensure your safety and the integrity of your structure.
